Description

Join Stuart for 6 weeks of fun, hands-on science.

Exploring is a fundamental part of human nature. In these sessions we will probe the world through hands-on practical investigation and test our understanding of what we know. We will learn to modify what we know, incorporate new ideas, learn new skills and record what we have done.

In this module we will be exploring forces.  There will be a series of practical experiments where we will introduce and explore the concept of fair testing.  We will be looking at ways to record experiment results in tables and then analyse them pictorially.  To measure the forces at play the pupils will use Newton meters.

  • Exploring friction between surfaces and how weight affects it
  • How to make levers work for you
  • The forces of lift and drag
  • The strange world of inertia and balanced forces

Classes take place 1pm to 3pm on Wednesdays or Thursday at the Outside Education Community Hub and Training Centre on Windsor Road, Prestwich. Unfortunately we will be unable to return to the Incredible Edible Heaton Park community garden until the spring because of the unpredictability of the winter weather.

Wednesday dates: 4th, 11th, 18th, 25th November, 2nd, 9th December

Thursday dates: 5th, 12th, 19th, 26th November, 3rd, 10th December
