Join Stuart 6 weeks of fun, hands-on science.

Having discovered the world of science it is now time to investigate deeper and make the connections between different concepts and facts. Using practical experimentation we will set the foundations of science learning, codify the methodologies of investigation and learn new tools to explore the world around us.

In this module we will be exploring forces.  The experiments being done will explore the concept of dependent and independent variables.  We will look at how to create an experimental methodology that enables reliable replication and accurate recording of the experiment results.  We will also explore how to analyse and then display the data in a graphical manner.  The experiments will include:

  • Exploring friction between various surfaces
  • Creating balanced forces and using calculations to make predictions
  • Looking at lift and drag to define basic rules that govern these forces
  • Exploring pressure and how it is used

Classes take place 10am to 12pm on Tuesdays at the Outside Education Community Hub and Training Centre on Windsor Road, Prestwich. Unfortunately we will be unable to return to the Incredible Edible Heaton Park community garden until the spring because of the unpredictability of the winter weather.

Session dates for this topic are:

  • 5th, 12th, 19th, 26th November
  • 3rd, 10th December
